“As a minister I must have the confidence that any policy decision
that I take remains above suspicion and isn’t challenged in future. In
order to ensure this, every minister may now have to form expert
committees or take written advice from other ministries before arriving
at any decision on allotments. This process will invariably take longer
time. So, all decision-making will slow down,” Pawar said.
Asked about the Supreme Court’s verdict on 2G spectrum allotment, Pawar said lawyers feel that judgment had not indicted the Centre or the prime minister in any way. It only highlights that the process followed by the telecom ministry for allotment was faulty. But this kind of cancellation of licences will surely scare prospective investors, he added. Some of the companies may feel that despite following the procedure and being within the framework they have lost out for no reason, he pointed out.
Speaking about various political possibilities in Uttar Pradesh, Pawar said, “the ground situation suggests that Samajwadi Party may emerge as the single-largest party, but they will not be in a position to form the government without support from others. If Congress provides this support, SP will in turn back the UPA government at the Centre.”
Asked about allegations made by a publication based in Canada against NCP leader and Union minister Praful Patel, Pawar said, “Praful Patel has written a letter to the prime minister clarifying his stand. Patel has written that even those who have leveled the allegations have admitted that there is no evidence of any money changing hands or any favour done when Patel was the aviation minister.”
Reacting to allegations made by Maharashtra minister Narayan Rane against deputy CM Ajit Pawar, Sharad Pawar said he has advised all his NCP ministers and leaders not to make any personal allegations against any Congress leader.
